Cross-border deals feed an M&A boom

Merger and acquisition activity Europe has increased from $264.4 billion for the second quarter this year compared with $142.3 billion the second quarter last year. The major deal makers are financial services, real-estate and telecommunications industries. Merger and acquisition activity is forecasting a $900 billion year for Europe 2005.

March surge keys rebound in European M&A activity

A mergers and acquisitions revival in the European Union with several cross-border deals, first quarter transactions totaled $150.7 billion compared with first quarter transactions of $206.6 billion from 2004. The largest acquisition bid is real estate interest Metrovacesa S.A. of Spain for Frances Gecina S.A. at $10.3 billion.

Europe catches deal fever

Acquisitions and mergers in Europe are hot and are forecast to be valued at over $1 trillion this year. The business trend is close to 1999-2000 levels and is expected to last for two years. Acquisitions and mergers in Europe have already generated $37.3 billion so far this third quarter.
