In 1998, the number of British and overseas passengers who crossed the Channel rose 2%. Eurostar and Eurotunnel Shuttle Services reported a 4.2 million rise in passengers in 1998, at the expense of ferries, which saw passenger numbers fall by 3.2 million. The cross Channel industry includes Ro-Ro and high-speed ferries, hovercraft, Eurostar and Eurotunnel Shuttle Services. The UK travel agency services market is forecast to increase from 9,084.4 million pounds sterling in 1998 to 10,937.3 million pounds sterling by the year 2003. The number of travel agencies is forecast to fall by 7.4% from 1,998 in 1999 to 1,851 by 2003. Travel agencies are expected to more efficiently exploit direct marketing tactics for selling their services. The flights and currency exchange sectors are expected to see the highest level of growth.
