Curbing North Korea
Article Abstract:
There are a number of sources of tension in Asia, and one of the most serious is posed by the nuclear ambitions of North Korea. The US has led an effort to diminish North Korea's ability to represent a danger to neighboring countries. The US wants North Korea to cease the sale of missiles and to cease sending missiles in the direction of neighboring countries. It is in China's interests to contain the development of nuclear weapons in North Korea, and China could put pressure on North Korea to adhere to a 1994 agreement to dismantle plutonium production over the long term.
