Super Mario
Article Abstract:
European Union commissioner for competition, Mario Monti, has been an economics professor, and is one of Europe's most powerful bureaucrats, who can influence mergers of companies with activities in the EU. Investigations that he has called for include a focus on the planned merger between Sprint and MCI WorldCom. He is concerned about state subsidies, and with liberalising professional services such as architecture, though he may not have sufficient staff to achieve his objectives.
