CyC Madrid elige para sede el edificio de Trasmediterranea de la N-II
Article Abstract:
Spanish cable telecoms operator CyC will be setting up its headquarters in the Trasmediterranea building located in Madrid on the N-II motorway to La Coruna. The company has already begun to set up the 45 kilometre cable network which will be in a trial phase in August, 1998, before launching the service in November. The company may be planning to offer free connection and services in the initial stages in order to promote the product among consumers. Local telephone service provided by CyC will definitely be cheaper than that of Telefonica, according to the director of the company.

Telefonica elige a Alcatel para la telefoniarural en America
Article Abstract:
A contract for 50,000 wireless access lines for rural telephony to be set up in Argentina by Spanish telecoms operator Telefonica has been awarded to Alcatel Espana, the Spanish subsidiary of the French group Alcatel. The contract is the first of what will be a substantial amount of business for Alcatel and other suppliers in Argentina. Alcatel aspires to supplying other areas where Telefonica is active, including Brazil, although frequencies there have not been liberalised yet.

QUALCOMM BAGS ITS FIRST CONTRACT FOR WLL SYSTEM

Qualcomm, a telecom company of the US, has got its first contract to supply wireless in local loop (WLL) systems to private basic service providers in India. It will supply a code division multiple access-based WLL system to Telelink, which holds the licence for basic telecom services in Rajasthan. Telelink is acquiring the equipment worth $40-45 million on vendor's credit. (khr)
