The credit minders
Article Abstract:
The growing bond markets in East Asia have led to a variety of systems by which such markets are rated. International ratings agencies often offer lower ratings to Asian bonds, due possibly to a lack of information or a predilection toward European or Anglo bond markets. Local agencies often give higher ratings to Asian bonds, prompting suspicion that governments and agencies are conspiring to improve their bond markets. Since respective governments will be the region's leading borrowers, impartial ratings systems will be difficult to formulate and enforce.
