DABUR (I) PLANS TO MOVE FAST THROUGH FOODS ARM
Article Abstract:
In consultation with McKinsey and Co, the Rs700-crore Dabur India Ltd plans to boost its presence in the FMCG sector through its subsidiary Dabur Foods. It is also reconsidering its earlier deciion to divest 49 percent stake in its confectionery joint venture, GCI, which has brands like Boomer, Bonkers and Donald. The consultancy firm listed food, healthcare and personal care as three core business as the company's new FMCG identity. In the juice and paste business, new categories will be indentified for the Hommade range of pastes and mixes and expand the current portfolio into pickles and chutneys. The company has set a revenue target of Rs100 crore for juice segment and Rs30 crore plus for paste and mixes segment for the year 2003. The target set for 1998-99 is Rs15 crore and Rs4 crore respectively. To achieve this target, Dabur plans to relaunch the Real range of juices in fresh packages, complete with a cap and a 50 ml smaller tetra pack variants. The brand will also be extended to kinoo and apple flavours and vegetable juices in 1999. (gsh)

GOVT TO SELL PSU REINS TOO

The government plans to offload a major stake in the public sector units, Balco, Kudremukh Iron Ore, ITDC, Modern Foods and Bongaigaon Refineries in favour of private companies. This will enable the strategic partner to have a substantial say in the management of these companies. The government also plans to split the proposed floats of Indian Oil Corporation, GAIL, Concor and VSNL into domestic and international components. The domestic component will be mainly targeted at the retail investor, who will be offered shares in these companies at a discounted rate. (gsh)
