DANISCO TVINGES TIL KOSTBAR LITAUISK RATIONALISERING

Article Abstract:

There is a huge need for investments in the Lithuanian sugar sector, not least as the whole supplier structure has broken down in the past ten years. So says Alvydas Marzekivizius, a Lithuanian consultant who has worked for the sector in 25 years. He says Danisco, the Danish food company, should close down two out of the four plants which the company has acquired, and that the best alternative is to concentrate the production to one plant. Danisco will also have to finance suppliers' costs for transports, seed purchases etc., according to Mr. Marzekivizius. So far, Danisco has not published any plans for investments and streamlining of its plants in Lithuania.

Article Abstract:

The Danish group Danisco Sugar now owns major stakes in all four major sugar plants in Lithuania. Past week, the group acquired minority stakes in the two plants Pavenchai (39.76%) and Marijampol (30.19%) from the Lithuanian Government. In addition, Danisco Sugar owns 64.88% of Panevezys and 41.66% of Kedainiai. The stake in Kedainiai will be increased to 68.24% through a capital injection.
