DENMARK: BSE SCARE BOOSTS POULTRY SALES
Article Abstract:
The Danish fear of the mad cow disease has profited the country's biggest poultry producer Rose Poultry. Turnover has risen 17% and stands at DKr1bn now. MD Per V Moller says Danish poultry consumers need not fear that either meat- or bone-based feed is used in poultry feed. The use of these substances stopped in 1996, which is why Danish poultry producers are in an advantageous position compared with their European rivals, says Moller. Even Danpos ved Give, that is Rose Poultry's biggest rival, takes a positive stance to the future and anticipate major increase in demand. Rose Poultry is a result of a merger between Skovsgaard and Vinderup Poultry.

Denmark: Stagnant sales of organic foods
Article Abstract:
Every third consumer in Denmark never buys organic foods. According to Anne C. Bech of Jysk Analyseinstitut A/S, this constitutes a barrier to increased sales of organic foods in Denmark even thought the overall sales of organic foods have climbed from Dkr250mn to DKr2.5bn (US$301mn) in the past seven years and account for 3% of Danish grocery sales. The odds are against Denmark as regards the sales of organic products on the export markets as such products are in demand only in Denmark, Sweden and England with the USA being an emerging market.

DENMARK:STRONGER DEMAND FOR POULTRY PRODUCTS
Article Abstract:
The demand for Danish poultry products has experienced a new revival in the wake of BSE, the mad cow disease, and the foot-and-mouth disease ravaging in Europe. Danish poultry producers Danpo and Rose Poultry A/D both say the demand for their products has risen considerably over the past six months. Despite this, prices have not risen. It is particularly in the German and the British markets that are reporting stronger demand for Danish poultry products. The animal diseases have not had a similar effect on the demand for fish products.
