DENMARK: CLOETTA FAZER INTERESTED IN TOMS FABRIKKER

Toms Fabrikker, the Danish confectionery maker, could be acquired by Swedish Cloetta Fazer, whose managing director Lennart Bohlin says that he would welcome a merger of Toms, Cloetta Fazer and Nidar of Norway as part of the consolidation process that has been going on in the confectionery business in the past years. The paper has not been able to get a comment from the management of Toms but the company is now ready to take a pole position in the Nordic market. Toms has a 7% market share in the Nordic region whereas Cloetta Fazer has a 25% share.

Toms Fabrikker, the Danish confectionery producer, aims at growth through acquisitions, merger or joint venture, says Vagn Genter, who is chairman of the board. He says the company will grow from middle-sized to a large player on the market, and adds that there are funds to finance the expansion. The main potential acquisition objects are small and middle-sized companies, owned by families or funds, like Galle & Jessen, which was acquired a few years ago.

Denmark: Toms Gruppen to close down a plant

Toms Gruppen, the Danish confectionery producer, is to close down marzipan factory Marcia-Bogo following Toms Gruppen's acquisition of confectionery producer BonBon. Production will be relocated to Toms Fabrikker in Ballerud as from 1 May next year.
