DENMARK: EARTHQUAKE PROFITABLE FOR MEMORY CARD

The earthquake in Taiwan will improve profitability of Memory Card Technologies, the Danish memory producer. 20% of the global production of so-called DRAM chips is produced by Taiwanese companies, and owing to the earthquake, the price of an ordinary DRAM product has increased to USD 18 from USD 13. The Danish company has a large stock volume of such chips, and expects that the net profit will increase by DKr 80mn (USD 11mn) thanks to this circumstance.

Chemitalic, the Danish producer of PBC's, reports a DKr 4mn (USD 0.5mn) net loss for the first six months of the fiscal 1999/2000, up from a Dkr 6mn loss for the same period in 1998/99. The company expects a DKr 0-2mn operating profit for the whole fiscal year.
