DENMARK: EGMONT TO FOCUS MORE ON THE NEW MEDIA
Article Abstract:
Henrik Kristensen, head of Danish media group Egmont's "New Media" business segment, sees major possibilities in the "on-demand"-principle, where consumers themselves choose when and how they want to use different types of information and media. He wants to put the group's entire content on a "large computer" for consumers to choose from. Exactly how the business model will look, he is not yet sure of. First broadband access must be more widely established. New competitors will enter the market as the business becomes increasingly digital; telecom operators will play a major role, says Kristensen. Soon, Egmont will establish a web-competence center in the UK, which is to function as a vanguard for the Scandinavian market. Kristensen believes most children's entertainment content will come from the US and Japan and then to Europe via the UK.

Article Abstract:
Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceuticals company, buys a 10% stake of the Swedish e-commerce marketplace IBX through its subsidiary Novo Nordisk Servicepartner (NNS). This makes it possible for IBX to expand to become the leading e-commerce marketplace in the Nordic region. IBX, Integrated Business Exchange, is the result of a co-operation project between Ericsson, SEB and b-business partners. NNS vice president Verner Bentzen says the company will be able to streamline its purchasing procedures by doing them via IBX.

DENMARK: EGMONT TO CLOSE DOWN EON.DK
Article Abstract:
Egmont, the leading media and entertainment group in Denmark, is to close down the entertainment portal Eon.dk, run by Egmont Online, due to massive losses. According to Egmont New Media manager Henrik Kristensen, Egmont has given up the Internet as a stand-alone business activity. He says the Internet will go through a phase where users are willing to pay for content. The closing down of Eon.dk also entails a re-organisation of Egmont's Internet operations.
