DENMARK: ELECTRICITY REFORM APPROVED BY THE EU
Article Abstract:
The Danish Government's reform of the electricity sector is expected to be approved by the EU within the next few months. A meeting between the Danish Minister of Energy and the Environment, Svend Auken, the Danish Minister of Economic Affairs, Marianne Jelved, and the EU Commissioner Mario Monti on 17 February turned out to be positive for the Danish Government. The reform includes, among other things, redistribution of subsidies to environment-friendly electricity production such as wind power etc. This means 150,000-200,000 owners of wind power plants in Denmark will benefit from a price rise, the paper states.

DENMARK: EXCHANGE FOR GREEN ELECTRICITY
Article Abstract:
A new power exchange for green electricity has been proposed by Energistyrelsen, the Danish energy authority. The exchange may be effective from 2002, according to the proposal. Nord Pool or Copenhagen Stock Exchange are likely to operate the exchange. However, the Danish producers of wind power generators are reluctant to the plan, as they fear that investments in wind power will cease. They believe this might be a consequence of the Government's plan to replace subsidies by so-called VE certificates, which will be purchased by consumers and thus form the basis of a market.

DENMARK: ELECTRICITY PRICES TO BE EQUALISED
Article Abstract:
The recent agreement between the parties of Folketinget, the Danish Parliament, states that prices of eco-friendly energy such as wind energy and district heating have to be equalised between eastern and western Denmark. Energistyrelsen, the Danish energy authority, gives priority to the issue, and has already held a meeting with Eltra, the electricity company in Jutland/Funen, and Zealand-based Elkraft System.
