DENMARK: ELSAM OUTSIDE CONSOLIDATION PROCESS
Article Abstract:
Elsam, the biggest electricity producer in Denmark, has postponed the decision about establishing a commercial player on the Danish electricity trade market until a new board has been appointed on 22 June. This means the main competitor Disam has a substantial lead in assembling minor electricity companies in the Jutland/Funen region to be competitive on a deregulated market. The reason behind Elsam's decision is that the Esbjerg-based company Vest Energi has decided not to participate in the formation of a new company at the first stage. Vest Energi is the biggest member of Dan El, which is Elsam's partner in the project.

Whereas Elsam co-operates with Dan El and the Norwegian company Hafslund about forming an electricity trading company in Jutland/Funen, Disam competes about taking over the trading activites of the electricity companies in the region. Later on, Disam will possibly even acquire a production plant. MD Jorgen Holm Westergaard says the company may own production facilities corresponding to 20% of its trading portfolio, which totals 8,000 GWh.
