DENMARK: GOVT TO BOLSTER THE METAL INDUSTRY
Article Abstract:
Ole Stavad, the Danish industry minister says it is unacceptable that every seventh company within the Danish metal industry and production technology have had to close down over the past ten years. The number of companies within the business is currently 5,000 with a total of 40,000 employees. Despite the fact that the number of sub-contractors in the business has dropped, turnover in the business has risen from DKr25bn to DKr30b. According to the minister, the industry needs to learn to use the information technology and to develop strategic business concepts that are based on service and not price. Londals Maskinfabrik is one of the companies that has managed to cope with the tight competition. Its success is ascribed to co-operation with 200-300 other sub-contractors. The company supplies complete machine systems to its major Swedish client Tetra Pak.

Denmark: Grundfors to set up a new plant
Article Abstract:
Grundfos, the Danish pump group, is to start production of its new micro pressure sensor in Farum in Nordsjaelland. The new micro sensors to be manufactured in Farum will measure only 4mm by 4mm that can be built in very small pumps. This will make Gundfos pumps even more energy effective than the electronically regulated pumps available on the market. Production at the Farum plant will start at the turn of 2002/2003. Grundfos now regards its development and production of micro sensors as a strategically important platform that is to be integrated into pump production.
