DENMARK: GTS AND WORLD ONLINE TO TARGET MARKET
Article Abstract:
The two international telecom operators GTS and World Online have begun targeting the Danish market. Both are willing to invest considerable sums in building up infrastructure. World Online is investing more than DKr 10mn (USD 1.4mn) in telephone exchanges to be able to connect to the Danish network. The company will invest in about 100 exchanges before the summer, according to director Svend-Erik Jensen. World Online will focus on advanced Internet solutions, and aims at becoming a leading player on the e-business market. GTS is interested in investing in a optic fibre network in the Copenhagen region, and is likely to take a decision about this in 2001. The company targets only businesses, and has so far won about 3,000 clients in Denmark, mainly middle-sized and minor businesses.

Denmark: TDC plans investments in optical fibre cables
Article Abstract:
TDC, the Danish telecommunications company, is planning to carry out an investment of more than DKr1bn in a comprehensive extension of optical fibre cables. The aim is to bring the cables closer to end users. This would make it possible for TDC to offer Internet links that are 100 times faster than its present ADSL solutions. TDC would also convert 75 telecoms stores to solution centres that provide technology advice to non-corporate clients. Peder O. Andreasen, MD of TDC Tele Danmark, TDC's fixed network business, says the final decision about the investment has not been taken yet, but the company anticipates a growing demand for capacity in the future.
