DENMARK: MINISTRY AGAINST DIOXIN LIMITS
Article Abstract:
The Danish Food Ministry is against the latest proposal by the European Commission aimed to limit the levels of dioxin in animal feed to 2000 pictogram (pg) dioxin/one kilo of fat in fish oil and fish. The Ministry fears that the new limits would completely ruin the Danish production of fish meal and fish oil, which is used as animal feed for pigs, chicken and fish. So far, not enough is known about the correct limits and it would be foolish to set the limits so low as to put the whole fish meal industry at risk. Denmark recently imposed a bank on the import of dioxin-contaminated Belgium foods.
