DENMARK: FDB CRITICAL AGAINST PLASTIC BOTTLE
Article Abstract:
Mogens Werge, environment manager of FDB, the major Danish retailing group, is critical against Miljostyrelsen's, the Danish environment authority's, decision to approve the new so-called PEN bottle for beer. He reacts against the authority's statement that a life cycle analysis can not be carried out until in a few years' time; according to Mogens Werge, it can be made already by now, based on the experience of PET bottles. What is more, the authority's statement that the PEN bottle is slightly worse from an ecological point of view than glass bottles, but that the difference is acceptable, is criticised, as even slight differences are important, according to the FDB executive.

DENMARK: ONLY 6% OF PLASTIC PACKAGING RECYCLED
Article Abstract:
Recycling of plastic packaging is by far not as developed in Denmark as many other EU countries, and Denmark will possibly not be able to fulfil the EU's requirement, a 15% recycling rate by mid-2001, the paper writes. In 1997, only 6% of plastic packaging waste were collected. According to Arne Christensen, director of recycling firm Replast, incentives, like those existing in neighbouring countries, have not yet been established in Denmark.
