DENMARK: PLASTIC BEER BOTTLE SUCCESSFUL
Article Abstract:
Carlsberg's launch of beer in plastic bottles on the Danish market has been successful. Jan Lundgren, purchase director at FDB, the major retail group, says sales exceed expectations, and adds that consumers seem to be willing to pay the additional price, compared with beer in conventional bottles. Dansk Supermarked, the other major retail group, reports that the plastic bottle has obtained a 20-25% market share. However, Carlsberg says the long-term strategy as regards the bottle can not yet be decided, even though the company is "optimistic" about its future. Bryggerigruppen, the major competitor among Danish breweries, is not planning to introduce beer bottles of the same type. The group aims at finding a better material, says the spokesman Leif Rasmussen.
