DENMARK: TIGHTENING OF HOUSEHOLDS' FINANCES

Danish households' finances have been tightened as a consequence of the Government's so-called Pentecost Package, which was launched in 1998. From this year, 36% of interest expenses are deductible, compared with 40% before. 45.2% of Danish households say the Package has deteriorated their finances, according to a study by Greens for the paper.

DENMARK: RETAIL TRADE UP

In October-December 1999, retail trade volume in Denmark increased by 3.8%, compared with same period in 1998, according to figures by Danmarks Statistik, the Danish statistical office. Compared with September-November 1999, the growth was 1.0%. The increase is attributed to all product groups.

DENMARK: DANISH PRIVATE CONSUMPTION IS LOW

Danish exports and domestic consumption are on the rise. The Danish Chamber of Commerce, Danske Handelskammer, forecasts that GDP will increase by 2.0% in 2000 and 2.3% in 2001 if the Danish people say yes to the Euro.
