DISHNET JOINS NET TARIFF WAR
Article Abstract:
Dishnet of the Sterling group has announced an Internet tariff of Rs10 per hour by launching a package at Rs995 for 100 hours of usage. This is 60 percent lower than that charged by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (Rs2500 per 100 hours) and 66 percent less than that charged by Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (Rs3000 per 100 hours). Dishnet has started Internet services in Pune and plans to expand services to 8 cities in the first phase and to 44 cities in the second phase. It plans to provide free Internet access if its proposal to share the revenue generated from telephone calls is accepted by the department of telecommunications. It has targeted a subscriber base of 600,000 by the end of its first year of operations. (khr)

TATA IBM LAUNCHES 3 NEW NETFINITY SERVERS

Tata IBM has launched three new IBM Netfinity servers. The servers have advancements drawn from supercomputer and mainframe technology. The IBM intend to add in future SP switch capable of handling more than thousand nodes to Netfinity while maintaining compatibility with Intel microprocessors and Microsoft Windows NT.
