The most successful sector of the DIY market was hardware and tools, which rose 14%; while paints and wallcoverings, and building materials did not do so well. The health and fitness market has increased in value since 1994, as more people are purchasing exercise equipment and joining health clubs. Clubs offering a wide range of sports and health services are becoming more popular in Britain because they cater for families as well as single adults.
