Daewoo bears wary of hyped optimism over stock after Thomson purchase
Article Abstract:
Daewoo Electronics Company Ltd.'s stocks rose 6% after announcing its successful bid to takeover Thomson Multimedia in Oct. 1996. However, many stock analysts are skeptic about the transaction, stressing that the Korean company will have to absorb much of Thomson's debt before it can generate profits. Thomson's losses are currently pegged at 16 billion francs. In the face of such skepticism, Daewoo Electronics officials emphasized the importance of the transaction in expanding the company's international market.

Foreign TV advertisers in South Korea are heartened by easing of restrictions
Article Abstract:
The South Korean government has begun liberalizing regulations governing television advertising. The Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corp. has reformed its strict rules on advertising time allocation and censorship. The new regulations will also allow foreign advertisers to bid for television and radio air time. Many advertisers welcomed the revisions, but some noted that the country's advertising code of ethics will continue to hinder the development of acceptable advertising campaigns.

Despite Dong Ah's strong comeback, however, its stocks have stagnated because of the prevailing slump in the South Korean stock market.
