Kim offers to step down as chairman of Daewoo

The Daewoo Group's chairman, 62-year old Kim Woo Choong, is planning to announce his resignation. The move Mr. Kim's way of accepting responsibility for Daewoo's financial troubles. There has been increasing public pressure for him to resign his post. Mr. Kim has been accused by foreign and domestic creditors of obstructing the restructuring of the group's affiliates.

Daewoo's Korean creditors accept restructuring plan
Article Abstract:
The Daewoo Group's creditors in South Korea have given their approval to the group's restructuring strategy. The plan would pare down Daewoo to its automobile operations if it is implemented as agreed upon. However, foreign bankers and economists did not express optimism about the restructuring plan. Under the plan, Daewoo would have six automobile affiliates as a result of the restructuring.
