Deal may pave way for Mirzan MISC bid; Petronas is seen as ally after buying 29.3% stake in Malaysian shipper
Article Abstract:
Petroliam Nasional BHD's (Petronas) purchase of 29.3% stake in Malaysia International Shipping Corp Bhd (MISC) for an undisclosed price may expedite Mirzan Mahathir's plan to gain control of MISC. Mirzan, eldest son of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, owns Konsortium Perkapalan Bhd which has tried to acquire a 29.3% stake in MISC from Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pencen. According to bankers and senior corporate officials privy to the MISC takeover, Petronas may sell its newly bought stake in MISC to Konsortium Perkapalan in a bid to gain an influential business ally in Mirzan.

Deregulation to boost India's oil refiners
Article Abstract:
Analysts agree that Hindustan Petroleum stock is the pick in India's oil industry. Fueling the appeal of the stock is the company's nationwide marketing network, well-executed expansion program and actively traded stocks. Analysts say that the stock is in the core holding of most registered foreign institutional investors in India. UBS Securities research analyst Tridib Pathak says that Hindustan Petroleum's profits can only increase after the deregulation of India's oil industry.

Scramble for Petronas gas may bruise foreigners
Article Abstract:
Petroliam Nasional Bhd., Malaysia's state-owned oil company, will automatically entitle most of its employees to around 5,000 shares of its stock at $2.16 each in a planned initial public offering. Analysts forecast a rise in the stock price on the listing. It will not be as easy for foreign investors, since they will have to comply with an unorthodox bidding process and may have so settle for a less lucrative deal.
