Hong Kong Star Internet Ltd., the second-largest Internet service provider in Hong Kong, and rival Hongkong Telecom IMS Ltd. have offered to provide business and technical support to entrepreneurs with new ideas for Internet ventures. Both companies are welcoming business proposals for their programs through the middle of August 1998, with the proposals outlining the nature of business, its target market, strategies, financial prospects and feasibility. Already, Star received over 800 inquiries, while Hongkong Telecom IMS received 1,000 inquiries for its five openings. Hongkong Telecom IMS will provide technical support and funding of no less than HK$200,000, or $25,810, the lucky entrepreneur.

Deal with ING Group unit boosts Vanda Systems' allure
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong-based computer systems firm Vanda Systems & Communications Holdings Ltd will be selling $10 mil of convertible bonds to an ING Group unit, the Baring Asia Private Equity Fund. The purchase will give Baring as much as 28% stake in Vanda, making the company Vanda's second-biggest shareholder. The transaction has significantly raised Vanda's price and trading volume in the market by as much as 4 mil shares. Vanda is the largest distributor of computer-system integration technology to the financial and banking sector in China with clients such as Bank of China, China Merchants Bank and Guangdong Development Bank.
