The House Banking Committee and muckraking journalists have uncovered several classified documents that reveal that the US had been funneling large amounts of aid to Iraq prior to the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Some of the loan guarantees granted to Iraq between 1987-90 may have been used for military purposes.

Pres Bush's executive order commanding the Coast Guard to force boats carrying Haitian refugees to return to Haiti represents the fifth attempt to curb Haitian immigration since 1981. Opponents believe the order is in violation of the Geneva Convention on Refugees.
