Demand uncertainty and supplier's returns policies for a multi-store style-good retailer

Article Abstract:

The newsboy problem modeling framework was employed to analyze the effects of demand uncertainty and a supplier's returns policy on a retailer's optimal order quantity decisions. The study focused on a supplier faced with a retailer that has two or more stores with normally distributed and possibly correlated demands. Based on special error functional forms of both the retailer's and supplier's functions, several insights were gained on the impact of correlation and variability between store demands on optimal decisions and their profits.
