Denmark: Illegal import of soft drinks
Article Abstract:
After the tax for soft drinks was raised to Dkr1.65(US$0.20) per litre the illegal import increased drastically, and it is estimated that the illegal import for the first six months of 2001 amounts to one eight of the Danish breweries sales. This threatens Danish companies and leads to the government loosing tax revenues amounting to DKr100mn according to the trade association for the Danish soft drink producers. The tax will not be changed until after the end of 2003 at the earliest, according to a statement by the government.
