Denmark: Novo to co-operate with French firm in Algeria

Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company, has started a joint venture with Piere Fabre, a French pharmaceutical company, and an Algerian partner. The companies are planning to establish a factory in Algeria worth around DKr200mn (US$24.1mn) for the production of insulin and pharmaceuticals. The Algerian government has been putting pressure on Novo to start local production in Algeria that would entail jobs and technology and know-how transfer, according to Novo ceo Lars Rebien Sorensen.

DENMARK: NOVO'S INHALEABLE INSULIN SUITS SMOKERS

Danish pharmaceuticals company Novo Nordisk's tests with its inhaleable insulin indicate that even smokers are able to use it, unlike similar tests done by Novo's rivals. Novo and its co-operation partner Aradigm have conducted tests involving 43 diabetics. 27 of them were smokers. The tests showed no difference between the two groups. Novo and Aradigm yesterday presented these results at American Diabetes Association's annual meeting.

Denmark: Novo to launch a new insulin pen

Novo Nordisk's new insulin pen, FlexPen, that is to be launched on Wednesday, is expected to become one of the most frequently used insulin pens in the world. Novo Nordisk has spent a three-digit million krone sum on developing the pen and has invited input from Danish diabetics for the development of the pen.
