DENMARK: DANISH COMPANY TO SUPPLY T-COMMERCE SOLUTIONS
Article Abstract:
T-commerce is a new type of business i.e. consumers buying products via their tv screens and the digital set-top box. A new service using this idea has been initiated by MediaGateway A/S, a Danish company. TDC Kabel-TV and Boxer TV-Access will supply the technological platform for the service whereas Bookland, the Danish bookshop, and Toycity and EuroFlorist are content suppliers. MediaGateway A/S will help to solve the technical problems arising when content is broadcast to several different platforms and technical standards. The service will be launched in Sweden in ten days' time where Boxer's 60,000 digital tv clients will be able to shop via their tv screen. The service will be extended to TDC Kabel-TV's 50,000 Selector clients in September. Efforts are under way to work out solutions to Viasat's and Canal Digital's digital viewers. Johan Becker of MediaGateway forecasts the number of digital boxes in the Nordic countries to grow from 1.1mn at the end of 2000 to 1.7mn at the end of 2001.

Denmark: Eurosport to be replaced in Denmark
Article Abstract:
TDC, a Danish cable television company with 600 000 customers, demands that Eurosport lowers its price by 35 percent or the company will be excluded from TDC's package of 28-30 channels. If the company refuses, which seems most likely, Eurosport will be replaced by Viasat Sport in TDC's package. At present Viasat Sport only exists in Sweden but its sports licenses can be extended to include Denmark. The demand for price reduction is the result of Eurosport's recent price rise and a customer poll carried out by TDC.
