Denmark: Swedish Tele2 to invest in Danish broadband
Article Abstract:
Tele2, the Swedish telecoms company, is now set to invest in the Danish broadband market. The company was last year awarded a license to set up a wireless broadband network in Denmark. Niclas Palmstierna of Tele2 declines to say how much the company will spend on this investment but adds that they will follow the guidelines of the Danish Telecoms Authority. This means that the first phase of the network will be completed by the end of the year. Palmstierna does not expect them to be able to attract vast customer numbers at the initial stages as the wireless broadband services are more costly compared with ADSL. Telecoms analyst Mette S. Ahorlu of IDC is critical of Tele2's investment in the wireless broadband network. She says the technology is expensive and should be priced as ADSL if it is to attract clients.
