Deutsche Telekom's net rises 9.7%

Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany posted an increase in first quarter net profit by 9.7 percent to 1.08 billion ($1.38 billion) up from 948 million Euros last year. Revenue growth was driven by its cell phone unit which offset declines in the fixed line telecommunications operation. Deutsche Telekom AG is the largest telecommunications company in the European Union.

Second-quarter net profit for Europe's biggest telecommunications firm by sales, Deutsche Telekom AG, fell by 40% to reach $838.9 mil, due in part by a six-week worker strike and loss of fixed-line customers. Sales however rose 2.9%, and earnings were boosted by the sale of its French Internet unit.
