Digital delivery
Article Abstract:
Courier company United Parcel Service (UPS) is introducing an on-line delivery service to stand alongside its physical delivery service. The service has two levels offering different degrees of security. The basic UPS Courier service system employs 40-bit encryption to scramble the document during transmission and the recipient uses a password of the sender's choice to access the document. The UPS Dossier service includes some 128-bit strong encryption for extra security. However, strong encryption is traditionally a national security tool and only eight countries are allowing its usage.

Speed thrills
Article Abstract:
Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) and cable modems are set to offer much more rapid Internet access than standard 56kbps modems. DSL can be used over existing telephone lines, but gives data-transmission speeds of between 8 million and 30 million bits per second. However, the user must be within five km of the telephone company's main exchange. Both DSL and cable modems are beginning to become established in Asian countries. In Hong Kong, for example, local cable television supplier Wharf Cable plans to launch a commercial cable modem service.
