The wages of peace
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton announced in Jul 1993 that the US has ceased opposition to International Monetary Fund loans to Vietnam, a move that clears the way for hundreds of millions of dollars in international aid projects in Vietnam. The US trade embargo is still in force, barring US companies from doing business in Vietnam. Clinton's announcement was low key, and there was little opposition from MIA activists. The announcement came after a Defense Intelligence Agency investigation found little credibility in a Russian document alleging the Vietnam lied about MIAs.

The fire next time
Article Abstract:
Vice-chief of US naval operations Vice Admiral Stanley Arthur says that US foreign policymakers are now turning their attention on the Asian region. Previously, the US had emphasized the importance of Europe in the country's foreign relations. Arthur further says that China's efforts to develop its naval capability are making the US and the other Asian countries nervous. Arthur denies that the US is leaving the countries within the region to fend for themselves.
