Distrigaz: le r sultat net semestriel progresse de 7%
Article Abstract:
The 7.9% increase in the amount of natural gas sold made up for low gas prices (-15%), and resulted in the Belgian gas distribution company, Distrigaz posting a 2.4% rise in turnover to BFr 40.28bn in the first-half of 1998. The mild winter caused sales of publicly distributed gas to drop 3.3% in the given period. Direct sales to Belgian industry were up 6.8%, and to electricity power stations +37.3%. Distrigaz consolidated net profits were up 7% at BFr 1.42bn in the given period. Distrigaz has a new president, the Baron Phlippe Bodson is replacing J.Coppens who is retiring. In July 1998, Distrigaz signed a transit agreement in which 2bn cubic metres of Interconnector gas will be transported to France every year. Furthermore, long term contracts have been signed with 11 foreign shippers regarding the transport of Interconnector gas from Zeebrugee to Germany, Holland and France. The contracts concern the overall annual transit of 15bn cubic metres of gas, and further contracts are expected to follow.

Alcatel C ble Charleroi aux abois
Article Abstract:
Part-time working and telecommuting solutions should be offered to the administration and sales staff of Alcatel C ble Charleroi to Brussels. The move, which involves some 40 executives and salesmen, is seen as a first step prior to closing down the Charleroi unit, unions fear, which the management dismisses saying that the other four headquarters of Alcatel C ble Benelux (ACB) are run without administrative and sales staff. On the other hand, the plant's future depends on a huge contract which should be disclosed by the beginning of Fall 1998. There is a staff of 250 at Alcatel C ble Charleroi, a unit specialized in medium and high tension cables, and copper cables for telephones.
