Do culturally distant partners choose different types of joint ventures?
Article Abstract:
Previous studies on international joint ventures show conflicting results when viewed from the role of cultural distance. It is hypothesized that managers recognize the problems associated with cultural distance and seek to lessen their impact through the selection of certain joint ventures. A study by T.K. Das and B. Teng was used to categorize a sample of ventures. Findings show that a greater cultural distance increases the probability that a marketing or supplier alliance will be formed.
