Domestic appliances and audio visual equipment in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
The Dutch market for domestic appliances grew 3% by volume in 1994 over 1993, although remained the same by value. Washing machine sales grew about 3% to 380,000 units, refrigerator sales fell 3% by value to 282 million Dutch Guilder and freezer sales fell about 4% to 106 million Dutch Guilder. Sales of tumble dryers grew about 4% by volume to 230,000 units. The Dutch market for audio visual equipment fell by value and volume in 1994, with turnover falling 4%. Video recorder sales grew about 5% in 1994 to about 740 million Dutch Guilder. The domestic appliance and audio visual markets are examined.

Sales of audio visual equipment in the Netherlands is increasing but the market value has fallen due to price competition. The market for personal audio equipment and surround sound television sets is particularly good, with 90% of homes receiving cable television programmes. Imports of domestic appliances in the Netherlands have fallen since 1995 due to a stable market apart from increasing sales in dishwashers. The majority of large domestic appliances are imported into the Netherlands. The market for electric coffee makers is very strong in the Netherlands and is worth FI 60 million.

In 1995, sales of domestic appliances in the Netherlands totalled DFl1.5 billion, representing a 2% rise in volume. Sales of small domestic appliances fell 2.5% in volume and 3.3% in value.
