DuPont's net income increase buoyed by Herberts acquisition

DuPont Co. posted an improvement of 6.5% in its net income for the second-quarter of 1999. The company was helped by its acquisition of former Hoechst unit Herberts. DuPont reported continuing operations net income of $846 million (796.3 million euros) for the quarter. This comes out to 74 cents per diluted share. During the same period in 1998, DuPont posted $794 million in net income.
