Dullards in demand
Article Abstract:
Small South Korean companies have made the biggest gains on the Korea Stock Exchange in 1992 as Schroders' 'Nifty Fifty' index, which lists small companies predominantly, has gone up by 43% since the start of the year. However, analysts foresee larger export-oriented companies doing better than smaller ones as broad stockmarket gains are improbable with the slowing domestic economy, as well as a high inflation rate and a current-account deficit. Also, the 10% limit on foreign ownership of stocks may halt the growth of stocks fuelled by foreign buying.

Patent game
Article Abstract:
Asian microchip makers pay large royalties to Western microchip companies because this would mean more earnings for their own patented microchips. NMB of Japan, and South Korean companies Samsung Electronics, Goldstar Electron and Hyundai Electronics are some of the companies that have been affected by the increased royalties. US-based Texas Instruments is expected to earn an estimated $400 million in royalty payments for 1992.
