Milan Triennale under threat
Article Abstract:
The Milan Triennale is a famed international architectural forum but the 1992 event is beset with problems and has lost much of the prestige of previous years. The Triennale began in 1923 and attracted architects of the stature of Le Corbusier, Loos and Gropius in its early years. In 1992, however it is criticised as being outdated and in the control of bureaucrats and politicians. Despite the criticism, the 1992 event has the theme of design and the enviroment and has attracted contributions from 16 international participants as well as Italian architects. The UK will be represented by Gillespie's, a Scottish firm.

When modern means listed
Article Abstract:
A seminar at the Royal College of Art, London, has been discussing the criteria to use for listing post-war buildings. One view is that such buildings can be judged by the same criteria as is used for older buildings. Criteria should be objective, not subjective. An alternative view considers visual criteria are important. Alternatives to listing were also discussed. Possible alternatives include strengthening conservation area status or making thorough records of modern buildings.
