E-billing Booming In 1999

A survey of high-volume electronic billers conducted during the second half of 1998 by Gartner Group Financial Services Research reveals that electronic billing is catching on in popularity. The survey indicates that the numbers of high voume billers using the Internet for billing should double in 1999; 25% of high-volume billers that paticipated in the survey already use the Internet for billing, and an additional 30% of survey respondents plant to use the Internet for billing in 1999

EasyEverything, the 24-hour cybercafe run by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, provides 380 terminals for guests who access the Internet for fees that vary according to demand. Haji-Ioannou spent large sums of money on equipment and advertising, and he plans to open more sites. Other entrepreneurs, such as franchiser Nick Rosen, have failed to make a profit from their cybercafes.
