An assessment of Internet users across and within regions of the world
Article Abstract:
A large-scale harmonised survey conducted in Asia, Europe and North America reveals data about Internet users. Internet penetration is greater in North America and in some developed Asian countries than in Europe, but the greatest uptake is in Canada, where 38% of the population uses the Internet. Male users predominate in all countries, and the majority of users are under the age of 35 and in white collar occupations. E-mail is the most frequent reason for using the Internet. Other factors influencing Internet uptake may include language, climate and culture.

Company market research departments - expansion, contraction, privatisation
Article Abstract:
Company market research departments now frequently find that they have to justify staff numbers and even their very existence. They have become very vulnerable, as they are usually unable to give clear proof of their effectiveness. Many companies seem unable to understand the need for up-to-date information, while others have become disillusioned about its effectiveness. Recent research has aimed at quantifying the extent of the threat now facing market research departments.
