AUSTRIA: AGREEMENT ON ENERGIE AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

An agreement has been reached on the evaluation of the future Energie Austria, which will thus be owned 52% by Verbundgesellschaft , 24% by Energie AG of Upper Austria and 24% by Energie Steiermark (Estag) of Styria. The two regional power companies will get a blocking minority although their stakes remain below 25%. The gas operations of the regional power companies will not be part of Energie Austria. The merger excludes also the supergrid of Verbund. Verbund rules out Electricite de France (EdF), which holds a 25% stake in Estag, getting a blocking minority in Energie Austria. However, Verbund and Estag expect EdF to have a positive view to Energie Austria.

Article Abstract:

During the 1996-1997 fiscal year, which under Ivory Coast legislation consists of 15 months, the Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Electricit (CIE) posted CFA Fr 172bn in sales, compared with CFA Fr 117bn for the 1995-1996 fiscal year, which consisted of twelve months. The CIE's net earnings for 1996-1997 came to CFA Fr 4.17bn, compared with CFA Fr 2.53bn for 1995-1996. The CIE expect lower sales in 1998 because of decreased sales to households and because of a decrease in the construction of new factories. However, net earnings are expected to rise 9.5%.
