Article Abstract:
The Soci t Industrielle de Laiterie Librevilloise (SIGALLI) is the only dairy product and fruit juice producer in Gabon. Private French and Gabonais shareholders control 65% of SIGALLI, which has an equity of CFA Fr 250mn in 1998, compared with CFA Fr 150mn in 1997. The remainder is held by Somdiaa, which holds 15%, SMAG which holds 10%, and SOSUHO, which holds 10%. SIGALLI's main activity is yogurt production, which represents 45% of its turnover, and which represented 1,000 tonnes in 1997, compared with 800 tonnes in 1996. SIGALLI holds 90% of the yogurt market in Gabon. Fruit juice is SIGALLI's second largest activity. This dropped 37% in 1996, but this is forecast to rise to 150,000 litres per month in 1998 compared with 130,000 litres per month in 1997. SIGALLI distributes, under franchise, 50,000 litres of Candia milk per month, and Fromageries Bel products, especially La Vache Qui Rit. In 1998, SIGALLI is expected to market 75,000 boxes of La Vache Qui Rit cheese per month, compared with 50,000 boxes per month in 1996. SIGALLI plans to discharge its debts in 1998. It expects to make a turnover of CFA Fr 4bn in 1998, compared with a turnover of CFA Fr 3.2bn in 1997, and CFA Fr 2.1bn in 1995.

Gabon Corps gras : la fin du monopole d'Agrobabon
Article Abstract:
Agrogabon, the state-owned fats company, was founded in 1976 to develop local palm oil production in order to meet the demand on the domestic market and to generate export turnover; Although this company's operations rose between 1995 and 1996, it declined in 1997, with a 2% drop in palm oil production, a 1.6% drop in crude oil production, a 3.3% drop in olein, and an 11.6% drop in fatty acids. This is due to the decrease in investments compared with 1996. Agrogabon's turnover came to CFA Fr 12.306bn in 1997, up 14.4% from 1996. But the company has a negative self-financing flow and accumulated losses of more than CFA Fr 10bn. The Agrogabon situation may worsen because of the liberalisation of the fats industry. Agrogabon undergo restructuring and discharge its debts before it is privatised. It must also find the financing to carry out this reorganisation.
