EMI confirms talks with Bertelsmann

EMI PLC announced that it has engaged in informal discussions with Bertelsmann AG for possible cooperative initiatives between the two entities. An EMI spokesman said the talks were held in October 1998. The spokesman would not state if a full merger was in the works, or if the talks were still ongoing. However, he said that no formal offerings were made during the discussions. The spokesman said that EMI conducts regular discussions with other companies.
