EU Commission prepares to fine group of heating-pipe makers

Article Abstract:

ABB Asea Brown Boveri and several other heat-pipe producers in Europe are expected to be ordered by the European Commission to pay fines in connection with alleged price-rigging activities. The agency maintained that the group of companies charged with conspiring one another to control prices of heat-pipes will be fined once their culpability has been sufficiently established by the ongoing investigation. Each of the firms are expected to be slapped with at least 20 million European currency units in fines for the violation, according to Karel Van Miert, top competition official of the European Commission.

Dutch rejection of Charter sparks larger EU fears

Article Abstract:

The Netherlands constituents have voted "No" to the proposed European Union constitution with more than 62 percent against, after the French populace also voted down the Charter. Major stumbling blocks were fear that national identity, control over immigration and asylum and tolerance towards marijuana and euthanasia would be lost. The European Union constitution needs unanimous agreement to be ratified.
