EU emissions proposal alarms U.S., airlines
Article Abstract:
The United States is unhappy about European Union emissions trading proposals that would include all airlines, a plan which the EU says is critical in combat ing global warming. The airlines industry, however, prefers emissions trading to some of the European Union's previous proposals. The current plan rewards carriers with fuel-efficient airplanes and full passenger loads.

The European Commission's proposal to reduce automotive emissions over the next five years is meeting opposition from industrialists and automobile manufacturers. The European Commission may compromise on the emissions targets, from 120 grams per kilometer to 130 grams per kilometer.
