Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom market for eating out grew 26% to about 16.5 billion pounds sterling in 1995 from 1990, while falling 6% during the period at 1990 prices. The restaurant market was worth 2.14 billion pounds sterling in 1994 and is expected to grow. Sales of fast food reached 5.5 billion pounds sterling in 1994 to account for 35% of the market. The market for pub catering reached about 4.1 billion pounds sterling in 1994, while the market for hotel catering fell 9% by value to 1.38 billion pounds sterling during 1990-1994. The eating out market is examined.
