Passenger traffic falls in 1999
Article Abstract:
Passenger traffic from Russian airports fell by 5.2% to 20,636,982 passengers in 1999 while cargo traffic grew by 14.7% amounting to 330,176 tons. For the same year, the number of international arrivals dropped by 18.7% to 5,573,495. The significant decline in passenger traffic is attributed to the fall in the purchasing power of Russian tourists because of the collapse of the Russian rouble in Aug 1998.
